In our practice I treat a lot of patients with acne. The patients are always surprised to learn that they are not unique.  Patients with acne can be in their teens as well as be in their forties.

It is comforting to the patient to learn that …"yes you can get acne at just about any age."  The next question is…"can it be cured?"….and my response….is .."I do not know."  The question should really be …"can it be controlled?"….and my answer would be…."YES!  Most definitely."

But I like to remind the patient that the course of acne as well as many diseases can be determined by your family history. Chances are that if one of your parents had a rough going of it with acne….you could be subject to the same unfortunate course and dilemma, IF YOU DO NOT GET TREATMENT and stick with it. So, yes you are not doomed to suffer from this potentially disfiguring skin condition.  With the present treatments available, I believe that no person really has to tolerate the condition and there should be a treatment for you that can bring this condition under control.

Despite that fact that I believe that proper nutrition can have an impact on many diseases …acne is not one of them.  Acne is caused by the skin and its associated appendages that were given to you by your genes and worsened by things rubbing against your skin surface (like your hands and your hair and too much makeup….period!)

Get a grip!…if you have acne ….you have to be the expert …and shouldn't you be?….hey man it's your skin. Who is going to do the job better than you????

Before we can get into the treatment of your acne … it is very important that you know the type of acne that you have…Well, what types of acne are there?

  1. Comedone acne….that's the kind with the black heads and white heads.
  2. Inflammatory acne…..that's the one with the red bumps and little pustules.
  3. Cystic acne……this evil condition is the one with the little bumps under the skin surface that you can feel but not see. This condition also includes the large, inflamed, soft bumps on the skin surface that can produce scars and permanently disfigure the face .
