Dog Bites and Other Animal Bites

1. Follow your doctor's instructions.
2. Leave wound open to air as much as possible.
3. Use bacitracin only and not products that contain neomycin.
4. Clean the wound with saline solution .9% and not hydrogen peroxide.
5. Return immediately if the wound becomes red and swollen or displays a discharge.
6. For dog bites, confirm with the owners of the dog that the dog is up to date with all injections.
7. Check with the Suffolk County Department of Health with other wild animal bites for the possibility of rabies.
