| Rib Contusion or Fracture | |
| 1. | Follow your doctor's instructions. |
| 2. | Take 3 or 4 deep breaths every hour. |
| 3. | Force fluids. |
| 4. | No strenuous activity, ie: sports, heavy lifting. |
| 5. | For the first 48 hours apply ice packs to the affected area for 10 - 15 minutes every few hours. |
| 6. | After 48 hours apply warm moist heat to the affected area for 10 - 15 minutes every few hours. |
| 7. | The pain will usually become worse around the 3rd to 5th day. |
| 8. | Rib injuries can take 5 - 6 weeks to heal, whether a fracture or contusion. |
| 9. | Return immediately for increased pain or shortness of breath. |
| 10. | We do not recommend strapping. |
