Eye Injuries

1. Follow your doctor's instructions.
2. Whether you have a corneal abrasion or had a foreign body removed from the cornea, the eye will be patched.
3. The corneal epithelium heals very rapidly if the eye is kept quiet. The problem is that the corneal epithelium is very sensitive.
4. If the eye is patched you must return within 24 hours to be rechecked.
5. Even though the eye is patched the pupil will still dilate and contract if the other good eye is stimulated by the sunlight or reading or watching TV. These activities will cause pain in the affected eye and will not allow the injured eye to heal as quickly as possible.
6. Do not drive or go to work with an eye patch.
7. Do not rub the eye.
