Head Injury

After you have received emergency and/or immediate care for your problem, the instructions marked below are to be followed. Take prescribed medications as directed and return to Long Island Medical Care for follow-up care as ordered. If you have a problem, call us or come back to see us
1. Follow your doctor's instructions.
2. Call us or your personal physician if ANY of the following occur after you leave.
  • Severe headache or blurred vision
  • Stiff neck
  • Fever
  • Unequal pupils (one larger, the other small)
  • Vomiting
  • Confusion
  • Cannot awaken
  • Convulsions
  • Areas of numbness

Stumbling on ANYTHING THAT CONCERNS YOU

3. NO MEDICATION, except the medication we ordered for you.
4. Make sure the pupils are equal and reactive to light every 2-3 hrs.
5. Make sure the patient is arousable every 2-3 hrs.
A concussion is a transient loss of neurological function such as, memory vision, consciousness, etc.

A contusion is a "bruise" of soft tissue or bone.

Concussion implies that there was injury to the brain itself. Concussion can be severe and lead to a coma. Therefore, if there is any question of a concussion, please have the patient evaluated by a doctor immediately.
