Sprains, Fractures and Severe Bruises A sprain is when a ligament is injured. A ligament is a band of or sheet of tissue that joins bones together. |

| 1. | Follow your doctor's instructions. |
| 2. | Apply ice packs to the injured area for 10-15 minutes every couple of hours. |
| 3. | Try to keep the injured area elevated and avoid weight bearing as much as possible, if appropriate. |
| 4. | If you are not allergic to asprin or similar compounds, you can take Advil, 3 (three) tablets every 6 (six) hours if you are an adult and your physician did not give you a prescription for another medication. |
| 5. | Return immediately if the pain is worse or you lose the functioning of the affected part. |
