Sprains, Fractures and Severe Bruises

A sprain is when a ligament is injured.  A ligament is a band of or sheet of tissue that joins bones together.

1. Follow your doctor's instructions.
2. Apply ice packs to the injured area for 10-15 minutes every couple of hours.
3. Try to keep the injured area elevated and avoid weight bearing as much as possible, if appropriate.
4. If you are not allergic to asprin or similar compounds, you can take Advil, 3 (three) tablets every 6 (six) hours if you are an adult and your physician did not give you a prescription for another medication.
5. Return immediately if the pain is worse or you lose the functioning of the affected part.
